Some say nothing, some say everything. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet." Juliet Capulet of Williams Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. But according to Spirituality & Health "When Shakespeare’s Juliet asserted that “a rose 'By any other name would smell as sweet,” she likely got it wrong. At least, that’s what the devotees who adopt spiritual names every year are counting on. Whether bestowed by a swami, a priest, a dharma teacher, a medicine man or woman, or even taken on one’s own, a spiritual name can enhance inner growth, perhaps even turn you, if you will, into a rose, simply by saying it’s so." Giving and receiving spiritual names had roots in antiquity and you can read more about it here.
Everyone recognizes and identifies themselves by their name. This can have both positive and negative effects on how we view ourselves. Some say it has no influence at all. However you view the value of your name or anyone else's is simply up to you. We are all on our own journey. Many people choose to change their names for various reasons, marriage, career, transformation, spiritual growth or they simply don't like it!
You may have seen a peppering of a name showing up on workshops and classes around the studio. And yes, that's me. I didn't plan on it or go through a big process with a guru or official adaption of a given name. I have found myself like so many of us do on my journey, going through my ups and downs, sometimes stumbling along my own evolution. For me it's about a culmination of all I've done over the past few years-honoring who I was, who I am, and now who I am continuing to become. I'm still very early on in my journey and look forward to finding continued growth and being ever changing. I hesitated, fearing it would be egoic in nature.
But then it seemed to be a natural fit, and knew it was right for me and the direction I was heading in life personally as well as professionally.
According to the attached article, a spiritual name can awaken someone's potential, and I drew from that as well-hopefully being able to evolve even further. So the named I've adapted and chosen to use, more in my professional life as opposed to personal, is Akasha Rae. And yes, for the record, you can still call me Heather!
The meaning of this name is special to me.
Akasha-The fifth element. The element of space. According to one of my dear yoga teachers who's taught me much of what I know, Akasha is space, and space is consciousness itself. Space is fine, subtle, soft, light, porous, and smooth in quality, and one can say that space is the mother of all elements. Thank you Nicolina Sandstedt for this lovely definition that resonated so much with me and what I strive to be. In my journey I'm become more connected with nature and the elements than ever before, I like to think of myself wrapping my arms around them and the entire world. And it reminds me that I am more than my body, I am consciousness itself, connected to infinite space and the entire Universe.
Rae-The meaning that struck me the most with Rae was the meaning of 'grace'. I hope to live my life in continued grace in all that I do and all that I share. To be humbled each and every day, find the beauty in all that surrounds me, and to share in it's beauty with everyone I meet.
With speaking engagements and writings in the works, I wanted to have an 'umbrella' if you will that summed up Little Lotus, Modern Goddess and everything in between. And falling along my own transformation this seemed perfect! So Akasha Rae is the umbrella (or corporation to be official about it!) and LLWS and MGL will fall under that umbrella.
So thank you for taking the time to read a little about my story and my continued transformation. I've loved nothing more than having the opportunity to learn, share and grow with all of you. And I hope to do so for many years to come. So until I see you again, be well and many blessings.
Hello lovelies. I hope you enjoy my journey of discovering my magick and Divine Feminine along with health, wealth of spirit and evolution. I am happy to share my experiences with you to heal, love, and evolve. Namaste-Heather aka Akasha Rae
